Foster Care to Adoption

Family Builders’ core programs, foster care and foster to adopt focuses on guiding families through the foster care and adoption process to meet both the short term needs of children who are in foster care, as well as those that need permanent families. Family Builders prepares and supports both couples and single parents in all ten Bay Area counties to meet the needs of children in foster care.

Interested in learning more about our foster care and foster to adoption programs? Join us for a virtual informational orientation held every first Saturday of the month from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, and every second Tuesday of the month from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Email kids@familybuilders.org to register.

Children in foster care

In California alone, there are over 40,000 children in the foster care system.  Some children need temporary families and many of the children will not be able to return to their family of origin. They are waiting for the one thing they need the most: a permanent, loving family. You can make a difference in a child’s life by becoming a permanent family.

Who can foster and adopt?

Family Builders welcomes all qualified and loving prospective parents: women, men, non-binary folks, gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people, couples and single people from all ethnicities and backgrounds, including mono-lingual Spanish speakers, and people of all ages. Our goal is to find the right family to meet the needs of each child. A foster parent will provide a stable, loving home and is ready to help ensure the best future for the child or teen placed in their home. This may mean reunification with their family or adoption with a relative or extended family member.

Please note that there is basic criteria to becoming a foster and or foster/adoptive family, including the following:

  • Families working with Family Builders must live in one of the 10 Bay Area counties.

  • Must live in at least a two bedroom residence to begin the foster and/or adoption process.

  • May have no more than six children living in the residence at one time.

  • May only work with one foster care or adoption agency at a time.

Additionally: We cannot place children in a home where a Pit Bull, Presa Canario or any dog breed that is known to be aggressive/dangerous resides. For more information regarding these guidelines, please contact Family Builders.

We invite you to learn about the needs of children in foster care and the step by step process to become a parent through Family Builders at our Orientation.
