Social Worker – LGBTQ Program - San Jose


The Social Worker will implement a new innovative program model to provide family engagement, advocacy and support to families of LGBTQ and gender expansive youth in foster care and/or at risk of entering care.   The Social Worker will also work in collaboration with the Santa Clara County Department of Family and Children’s Services to provide and coordinate comprehensive LGBTQ related support and consultation to workers.

The Social Worker will work with families and other caregivers of referred youth to build or rebuild relationships, educate and train, and provide other support as needed where there are challenges for family members in regards to the youth’s sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.   The goal of the project is to achieve permanency for LGBTQ youth. 

This position is based in Santa Clara County, with travel to the Family Builders main office in Oakland occasionally required.


Master’s Degree in social work, psychology, counseling or a related field. Experience working with youth in the foster care system and comprehensive SOGIE knowledge and experience working with LGBTQ youth. Experience working with African American and Latino families and communities. Current Driver’s License and a working automobile are required. Must be committed to the mission of the agency.  Bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus.  LGBT individuals and people of color are encouraged to apply.

Part-Time Home Study Social Worker - Bay Area

We currently have a part-time hourly position for an experienced Homestudy Social Worker. The Homestudy Social Worker conducts homestudies and assessments for relatives and other caregivers. They provide an in-depth assessment of the family’s background, experiences, relationships, strengths and weaknesses, and capabilities to fost/adopt a child. This is a part-time, hourly position 10-20 hours per week. This position requires in-person visits to family homes.


Master’s degree in social work or equivalent, ability to communicate well, excellent clinical assessment skills, knowledge of and experience with the foster care/child welfare system, including child mental health and placement/attachment and adoption issues. This position requires excellent writing skills. Must have own car and be willing to travel. Must have flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
