Bilingual Foster Care and Adoption Social Worker

We have an immediate opening for a foster care/adoption Social Worker who will provide clinical case management, conduct assessments, as well as provide training and support to families as they prepare to become foster and adoptive parents.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree required in social work or equivalent. This position requires strong clinical skills as well as experience and cultural competence working with African American, Latino and LGBTQ communities. Must be fluent in Spanish and English.  Must have a car and be willing to travel throughout the Bay Area.   Position will involve evening and weekend work.  Must be committed to the mission of Family Builders. LGBTQ+ Navigator

This is a short-term employment opportunity, ending on 9/30/22.  The Navigator will provide ongoing support and technical assistance to counties to improve the care and well-being for LGBTQ+ and gender expansive children in foster care.  The Navigator will also provide consultation and technical assistance to child welfare workers, residential treatment programs and foster family agencies and families for the purpose of meeting the needs of LGBTQ+ youth. The Navigator will provide advocacy for LGBTQ+ youth with collateral systems.  The Navigator will advocate for and facilitate permanency services for LGBTQ+ youth. The Navigator will also, when appropriate, work with families to assist them in becoming the affirming, supportive and nurturing families that their LGBTQ+ youth need them to be, for the purpose of family reunification and family preservation.

This position is based in and serves both Humboldt and Mendocino counties.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling or a related field. Experience working with youth and families involved with the foster care system. Comprehensive knowledge about sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, as well as experience working with LGBTQ+ youth. Experience working with Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). Current Driver’s License and a working automobile are required. Must be committed to the mission of the agency.  Bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus.  LGBTQ+ individuals and people of color are encouraged to apply. Bachelor’s degree will be considered with at least 5 years’ experience working in the child welfare field and with LGBTQ+ individuals.

Adoption Navigator

We currently have an opening for an Adoption Navigator.  The Adoption Navigator facilitates matching between children in foster care and prospective adoptive parents through the California Kids Connection (CKC) web site. They will maintain child photolistings and help potential adoptive parents navigate the fost-adopt system and respond to inquiries about children who are listed on the CKC web site; provide ongoing support for inquiring prospective foster and adoptive families as appropriate to facilitate matching as well as provide other administrative assistance as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required. Writing and communication skills required, use of independent judgment and the ability to maintain confidentiality are required. Must be organized and pay strong attention to detail.  Must be committed to the mission of Family Builders. Knowledge of adoption and foster care systems is desired but not required. People of color and LGBTQ individuals are encouraged to apply.
